Rules
On 14 September, 2005, the World Triathlon Corporation (“WTC”) accepted the World Anti-Doping Code (the “Code“) for all IRONMAN® Triathlon events, whether conducted by WTC or its Licensees. As a private corporation conducting triathlon events under the IRONMAN® brand, WTC is the first private, non-federation sports company to formally adhere to the Code. These Anti-Doping Rules are adopted and implemented in conformance with WTC’s responsibilities under the Code, and are in furtherance of WTC’s continuing efforts to eradicate doping in the sport of triathlon
Applicable Rules:
The World Anti-Doping Code (Code) is the document that harmonizes regulations regarding anti-doping in sport across all sports and all countries of the world. The Code provides a framework for anti-doping policies, rules, and regulations for sport organizations and public authorities. The Code may be reviewed at http://www.wada-ama.org/rtecontent/document/code_v2009_En.pdf.
The World Triathlon Corporation Anti-Doping Rules (WTC Anti-Doping Rules) are in full compliance with the WADA Code and apply to each participant in World Triathlon Corporation events by virtue of the participant’s application for entry and/or participation in the event.
These Anti-Doping Rules contain only minor revisions and updates to the WTC Anti-Doping Rules, Version 3, published January 2010. The World Anti-Doping Agency (“WADA”) confirmed that these rules continue to successfully incorporate all the mandatory articles of the 2009 World Anti-Doping Code (‘the Code’).
Key changes to the WTC Anti-Doping Rules include:
- The WTC Anti-Doping Rules now cover all World Triathlon Corporation events and participants. Version 3 was specific to Ironman® triathlon events. This change ensures that all events conducted by the WTC or its licenses adhere to the WTC Anti-Doping Rules
- Article 7 of the WTC Anti-Doping Rules further clarifies the role and responsibility of the Results Management Authority for all Tests initiated by the WTC and/or its Event Licensees.
- As defined in Article 7.6.5 the WTC and/or the responsible Results Management Authority will now, upon issuance of a Provisional Suspension, notify the International Triathlon Federation (ITU), the International Cycling Union (UCI), the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) and the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA). This notice, in addition to notice provided to the applicable National Anti-Doping Agency, National Federation, and WADA will help ensure that all relevant parties are notified of an Athlete or other person’s ineligibility consistent with the Code.
- Pursuant to Article 8, Right to a Fair Hearing, the WTC has specified that in the case where the WTC is acting as the Results Management Authority, the WTC shall bring the Athlete before the WTC’s own disciplinary panel administered by the American Arbitration Association pursuant to the modified Supplementary Rules for Anti-Doping (Appendix 3). This process ensures full independence and transparency of the hearings process.
